Learning Objects has a broad range of standards implementation experience across multiple customers, institution type, technologies, and platforms. We will provide our perspective on the characteristics of both the thriving standards ecosystem as well as the ideal conditions under which a standards-based approach save significant time and money and help drive outcomes for institutions and their learners. Without revealing names of specific institutions, we'll present a framework (and guiding principles) for effective, valuable standards implementation. We will also provide some examples where we have fallen short of these ideals, they reasons why, and off our lessons learned and recommendations how to do better as an ecosystem.
