Adaptive learning has been viewed by some as the holy grail of instructional technology since the advent of B.F. Skinner’s “teaching machine.” While personalized learning may be ideal for students, the challenge for institutional leaders is developing a scalable, cross-disciplinary infrastructure that is easy for faculty to learn and use, and manageable for IT to support. In this “point and counterpoint” discussion, two HED leaders will share their philosophies and practices for adaptive learning, how technology supports them, and what technology and functions faculty are using to reach their adaptive goals.
